Monroeville’s 24th annual Jack Sedlak Memorial Clean Up Day was a sweeping success as more than 500 people showed up to pick up trash throughout the municipality, the event’s organizer said.
The event, held April 27, netted 578 bags of litter, 36 tires and seven televisions, said Joe Sedlak, Monroeville’s Human Resources director.
The event was named after Joe’s father, a former Monroeville councilman who envisioned a cleaner community. Jack died of cancer in 1995.
Residents were encouraged to choose a road or area to collect litter with bags and supplies provided by PennDOT.
This year, 511 volunteers spread out in the municipality along Route 22, Old William Penn Highway, Northern Pike, Mosside Boulevard, Saunders Station and Haymaker roads, among others.
After the cleanup, the municipality hosted a picnic at Monroeville Community Park West.
