The Monroeville volunteer fire departments will sponsor recruitment events this weekend.

All five fire stations will host events from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 22-23.

The stations are located at 122 Elmwood Street, 2601 Third Street, 4370 Northern Pike, 100 Seco Road and 600 Garden City Drive.

Activities will vary from station to station, but some include tours of the facilities and vehicles. Monroeville Fire Station No. 4 on Northern Pike will offer light refreshments. Those 18 and over are welcome on ride-alongs.

Jason Sonafelt, deputy fire chief at Monroeville Fire Company No. 1, said the municipality’s fire stations respond to around 10,000 calls every year. Between the five stations are eight fire engines, three ladder trucks, two heavy rescue trucks and nine ambulances.

Chris Grimes, deputy fire chief at Monroeville Fire Company No. 5, said there are open positions for fire and EMS operations, organizational support and EMS-only operations.

He said the municipality offers free training and equipment to all interested applicants. The municipality also has a Junior Firefighter Program for teens aged 14 to 18.

Each station also has a live-in program with amenities like laundry rooms and kitchens.
