Monroeville library scores success with ‘Alice in Wonderland’ fundraiser
Monroeville Public Library presented a very important date with an “Alice in Wonderland”-themed tea fundraiser on June 4 in the Lourdes Center at Christ the Divine Shepherd Church, Monroeville Campus.
The library welcomed 144 participants. They enjoyed a themed cookie table featuring 32 varieties of sweet treats, along with raffles, prizes, a photo booth and other Wonderland activities.
“This year’s tea party with Monroeville Public Library was unlike any other celebration I have attended,” guest Brittany McAteer said. “The decorations were fabulous. There were many fantastic raffles, and the staff was amazing. Everyone had a blast. I heard many compliments from attendees, and I was lucky enough to win the Kate Spade purse raffle.”
The event attracted not only local community members but participants who traveled quite a distance.
“I had several friends come from out of town,” Lydia Fennessy, a table host for the second year, said. “Everyone had a great time and is already planning to invite more people to come with them next year.”
The planning for next year’s tea already is in progress, starting with the vote held at this year’s event to choose the 2024 theme. After counting the votes and building anticipation with a drum roll, “The Wizard of Oz” was announced as the winner, surpassing strong contender “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.”
Kelly Meredith, a Monroeville Public Library Board member, expressed delight at the result.
“It’s always wonderful to see so many library supporters all in one place at such a fun event,” she said. “Everyone showed great creativity with the ‘Alice in Wonderland’ theme. I’m looking forward to what next year’s ‘Wizard of Oz’ theme has in store.”
Throughout the tea, the library staff received compliments and praise.
“It really was a ton of fun. It was fantastic to see so many of our patrons, who we usually see individually or in small groups, enjoying an event together,” Cory Little, head of adult programming for the library, said. “The excitement was palpable, especially when the raffle winners were announced. You couldn’t help but smile at how delighted they were.”
Library staff and board members extend their gratitude to the table hosts, food and prize donors, and all the volunteers, especially those who attended.
“It was wonderful to see so many people who love the library come out and show their support. It was a successful fundraiser for the library,” said Pamela Bodziock, assistant director of public services. “But it was also something special just to witness the community coming together to celebrate, have fun, and be united.”
