A Braddock man accused of fatally shooting a Monroeville Mall worker outside the retail hub was taken into custody Friday.

Lawrence Murphy, 20, turned himself in to Allegheny County Police, according to Monroeville Police Chief Doug Cole.

An Allegheny County Police spokesman said that occurred around 5 p.m.

Murphy is charged with homicide and firearms violations for allegedly killing Saheed Gayle, 20, of Pittsburgh outside the entrance to Party City at the mall on Oct. 7.

Police said Gayle was shot around 1:30 p.m. after the two got into an argument.

Chief Cole said three people were involved and that they all knew each other. First responders found Gayle lying on the floor of a mall entrance. Police said they believe he was shot in the parking lot and that he crawled inside the entrance.

Gayle was taken to Forbes Hospital shortly after the shooting, where he later died.

An arrest warrant was issued for Murphy on Monday.
