A New Jersey man is accused of threatening and exposing himself to staff on Valentine’s Day at a Monroeville hospital and damaging equipment in an examination room.
Matthew Doherty, 32, was charged with indecent assault, making terroristic and ethnic threats, disorderly conduct and criminal mischief in connection with the Feb. 14 incident at Allegheny Health Network Forbes Hospital. The alleged encounter occurred after Doherty had been detained and monitored in a seclusion area.
Police said Doherty damaged camera equipment and attempted to break out of a room. He then exposed his genitals to a nurse, used ethnic slurs and threatened to kill her while making a slashing movement across his throat, according to the criminal complaint.
“Defendant Doherty has continuously caused problems with staff and other patients while at Forbes Hospital,” police wrote in the complaint. “There are six additional crisis calls to the floor where defendant Doherty became disorderly towards staff and patients.”
Police said Doherty will be taken into custody once he is discharged from the hospital.
