Firefighters from at least six companies were at the scene of a fire at this bicycle shop in Monroeville on Tuesday afternoon.

Route 22 eastbound was reduced to one lane until about 8 p.m. Tuesday evening in Monroeville, after a four-alarm fire at Pro Bike+Run in the Miracle Mile shopping plaza.

Monroeville No. 1 Chief Jason Sonafelt said the fire was reported around 3:50 p.m. and that all three businesses in the building, including AT&T and General Nutrition Center, had been affected and were evacuated.

“Right now it’s under investigation by the county fire marshal,” Sonafelt said around 5:30 p.m. “No one is injured at this time, the fire is under control and we’re just doing some overhaul operations right now.”

Several windows on the upper floor of Pro Bike were broken out, with smoke venting from the building. Sonafelt said he didn’t immediately know the extent of the damage.

He said that the hot afternoon temperatures played a role in battling the fire.

“Within minutes, we had crews overcome by the interior heat and the heat outside. That’s why we’re up to a four-alarm now with the other crews on the scene.”

Sonafelt said crews knocked down a large fire in roughly an hour’s time.

“Kudos to them for doing that,” he said.

Crews from Monroeville, Murrysville, Wilkins, Pitcairn, Penn Hills and Turtle Creek responded to the fire call.
