School may be out, but Divine Mercy Academy’s gym was full of spirit during the last week of June.

A cheer camp attracted 25 students who will be entering kindergarten through eighth grade. They learned skills and a dance routine to present during the camp’s culminating activity, a showcase for family members and friends at the Monroeville school on June 29.

Head coach Colleen Cocchi encouraged the students as they wowed the crowd, highlighted by varsity cheerleaders forming a pyramid with Skylar Ament standing tall at the top.

Divine Mercy Academy started a cheerleading program for the 2022-23 school year, with teams in kindergarten through fourth grade and fifth through eighth grades, following a successful camp last summer. The teams and camp are open to all students within the age groups.

During this year’s camp, participants made posters to carry as they marched in Monroeville’s Fourth of July parade. Helping the students during the week were coaches Tina Cuda, Emma Nicolazzo and Francesca Spezia.
