Steel City Con returns to the Monroeville Convention Center
While it might be true that “dead men tell no tales,” pro wrestling legend The Undertaker should have some great stories to tell. And Pittsburghers might be able to hear a few as the pop culture icon will soon make his way to the Monroeville Convention Center for Steel City Con.
’Taker retired from wrestling in November 2020 after 30 years in the ring.
He was inducted into the World Wrestling Entertainment Hall of Fame earlier this year.
The Undertaker, whose real name is Mark William Calaway, is slated to be one of the headliners for the convention that runs Dec. 9-11 at 209 Mall Blvd.
However, his only scheduled appearance will be Dec. 10.
Other celebrity guests include fellow WWE Hall of Famer Jerry “The King” Lawler; All Elite Wrestling champion Jon Moxley; Charlie Hunnam (“Sons of Anarchy,” “Pacific Rim”); Vicki Lawrence (“Mama’s Family,” “The Carol Burnett Show”); Ryan Hurst (“Sons of Anarchy,” “The Walking Dead”); and star of stage and screen Chevy Chase (“Saturday Night Live,” the National Lampoon “Vacation” movie franchise).
Special effects master Tom Savini, American Idol judge Paula Abdul and “Smallville” stars Tom Welling and Kristin Kreuk are also on the guest list, as well as a host of actors from Netflix’s hit shows “Cobra Kai” and “Stranger Things.”
Celebrity schedules, autograph and photo pricing are all available on Steel City Con’s website.
Featured artists include cartoonist Joe Wos of Oakmont, legendary horror film maker John Russo, Ohio-based artist and comic contributor Shawn Coss and writer/actor Russ Streiner.
Artist Quick Sketch, a near two-hour draw-a-thon featuring artist vendors, is set for 6 p.m. Dec. 10. Participants create live drawings that are raffled off for charity.
Wos was at last December’s convention and participated in the quick sketch. They raised about $1,650 for the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh at that time.
The costume contest is scheduled for 1-4:45 p.m. the third and final day of the convention.
The contest is usually broken down into children, teen and adult divisions with various prizes awarded.
Discount three-day passes are $40. Tickets for Dec. 9 and 11 are $20. Tickets for Dec. 10 are $29.
Prices go up on Nov. 28 to $60 for a three-day pass, $30 for Dec. 9 and 11 and $45 for Dec. 10.
VIP bundles are also available. Go to steelcitycon.com for more information.
