Wilkins baby born with perfect timing — '2' perfect — at Forbes Hospital
A Wilkins couple had their first child at the perfect time.
Amanda and Ryan Liscio welcomed their daughter, Freya, at Forbes Hospital in Monroeville on Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2022 at 2:22 p.m.
After battling some complications that morning, Freya was born naturally at 6 lbs. 9 oz. and was 21 inches long.
The Liscios were planning to have a child, but didn’t have delivery down to the minute.
“Not even close,” Amanda said while recovering at home Thursday. “We tried one time and we laughed and said, ‘We’re just going to wait and see what happens. We found out six weeks later we were expecting. Her due date was 2/1/2022. A big family of mine, of course, we all say, ‘Let’s pick the date.”
Some were hoping for a Feb. 20 delivery while Amanda, a 2007 Plum High School graduate, said she was expecting an earlier date.
She said while at while at the hospital earlier this month, a doctor told them, “We are not going to plan on a time. We are going to let her come when she’s ready.”
The mother said the complications involved inducement medications that caused the baby’s heart rate to drop. The medical professionals acted quickly and Liscio was able to avoid having a cesarean delivery.
Ryan Liscio, a 2008 Woodland Hills High School grad, said he was impressed with the care and attention to detail shown to his wife and their newborn.
“I was surprised at the amount of genuine interest and care everyone had towards us,” Ryan said. “Nobody was real impatient. Everyone was incredibly welcoming. You could tell all the women there weren’t there because it was their job. They were there because it was their passion.
“They just genuinely loved helping new parents and expecting mothers. It was one of the more incredible things I’ve ever experienced.”
Amanda, 33, said she has been going to Allegheny Health Network facilities for annual checkups and other medical needs since she was 16.
That made for an easy choice as to where to have the baby.
“Everyone was fantastic,” Amanda said. “We could not have been more grateful for the experience.”
Freya is also somewhat of an anniversary gift.
Amanda and Ryan began dating in February 2010. They have been married since October 2015.
Ryan, 32, dressed as Batman from “The Dark Knight” movie franchise at the reception of their Halloween wedding.
Freya was dressed in a Batgirl outfit the family found about seven years ago, complete with black and gold bows and a black tutu.
The family lives in the house Ryan grew up in. Amanda is a financial advisor and Ryan is a craftsman with his own business.
They said they will always remember the birthday of their healthy baby girl.
“We got blessed with timing and everything,” Ryan said. “It’s a whole new adventure we couldn’t be more excited to start.”
