Officials in the Moon Area School District say they are investigating what’s being described as a cyber “incident” affecting some of its computer systems.
The computer problems are not expected to cause disruptions when students return to classes from summer break on Wednesday.
“We recently began experiencing a cyber incident that has encrypted some of our systems, resulting in a disruption to certain computer systems and operations,” Superintendent Barry Balaski wrote in a letter to parents.
“We are working diligently with third-party specialists and government authorities to investigate the source of this disruption, confirm its impact on our systems, and restore full functionality to our environment and operations as soon as possible,” he wrote.
The superintendent said parents and students will still be able to access the district’s online programs from computers outside the district, “however, we have limited access when we are on campus, so please be patient with us.”
Balaski said the incident is still being investigated and updates will be shared with parents when more information is available.
