Morgan Overton, a longtime advocate for gender, racial and economic justice, is joining Pittsburgh Mayor Ed Gainey’s administration, officials announced Thursday.
Overton will join the Office of Management and Budget, working under Chiefs Kyle Chintalapalli and Lisa Frank.
“Morgan brings a decade of experience in public service and leadership to our team and her counsel will be invaluable,” Gainey said. “I am confident she will serve the residents of Pittsburgh honorably.”
A fifth-generation Pittsburgher, Overton began her public service career as a 2012 Obama for America Fellow, mobilizing college students across the city and working to register young voters and educate them on policy issues.
She previously worked as a community engagement and policy associate for the Jewish Healthcare Foundation and also has held roles with the Women and Girls Foundation as a program associate and Boston Children’s Hospital as a clinical research assistant.
Overton currently serves on several boards and committees, including Pennsylvania Young Democrats, Black Equity Coalition, City of Pittsburgh Gender Equity Commission, Black Women’s Policy Agenda and Young Democrats of Allegheny County, of which she is president.
She holds a master’s degree in social work with a focus in community organizing and social action from the University of Pittsburgh.
She will begin working for the administration immediately.
