CMU officer injured in Trump motorcade

A Carnegie Mellon University police officer was injured in a crash while en route with Donald Trump’s motorcade to Acrisure Stadium on Sunday.

The motorcycle officer hit a curb on eastbound Carson Street in the West End Circle, launching him from his bike, according to Pittsburgh Public Safety.

The incident happened just before 8:45 p.m.

The officer was alert and conscious, and taken to the hospital in stable condition.

Code Orange Air Quality Day

People with respiratory problems are encouraged to limit their time outdoors Monday after a Code Orange Air Quality Action Day was issued in parts of Allegheny County.

The state Department of Environmental Protection said it is a result of fine particulate matter, which can include chemicals from construction sites, unpaved roads, smokestacks or fires.

Areas mostly impacted include Clairton, Glassport, Liberty, Lincoln and Port Vue.

Residents and businesses are encouraged to help by reducing fireplace and wood stove use, avoiding an open burn of leaves or trash, and avoiding gas-powered lawn and garden equipment.

Woman charged with arson in Allegheny Commons fire

A Pittsburgh woman was charged with arson following a fire Saturday at Allegheny Commons on the city’s North Side.

Sandy Bartha, 37, is charged with arson, criminal mischief, causing or risking a catastrophe and cruelty to animals.

The fire happened at about 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the 200 block of East Ohio Street.

No injuries were reported but people in at least six apartment units are temporarily displaced. Four cats and one dog were rescued.

Bartha is in the Allegheny County Jail awaiting a preliminary hearing scheduled for Oct. 28.
