Here are some of the latest news items from this morning, Monday, Feb. 9:
Code Orange alert issued
Several Mon Valley communities are under a Code Orange air quality alert Monday by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.
Clairton, Glassport, Lincoln, Liberty and Port Vue may see pollution levels that are dangerous for sensitive groups, including children and the elderly, the department said. People with lung issues, like asthma, as well as heart disease could also be harmed.
Affected residents are advised to avoid exercising or otherwise doing strenuous activity outside.
Light winds and a temperature inversion — when cold air traps pollutants in warmer air below — are contributing to the hazardous conditions, according to the alert. Concentrations of fine particulate matter in the air will be highest Monday morning.
Monday’s warning is the second Code Orange faced by these communities in as many weeks. The Jan. 31 alert also involved an inversion.

Allegheny County Police say they were alerted shortly after 11 p.m. of a shooting in the 100 block of Jane Street.
The woman was taken to a nearby hospital, police said.
The investigation is ongoing.
