Marshall home’s garage destroyed in fire
The attached garage of a Marshall Township home was destroyed in a fire Wednesday night.
Multiple crews were dispatched to the 400 block of McKean Drive shortly after 9 p.m., TribLive news partners WTAE reported.
It is unclear if there were any injuries or what might have caused the fire.
Traffic light installed near site of fatal Dravosburg crash
The state Turnpike Commission has installed a new traffic light near the scene of a tragic car crash that killed a 15-year-old Dravosburg girl last year.
The temporary signal is located at the intersection of Richland Avenue and Fifth Street in Dravosburg, state Rep. Nick Pisciottano, who is among those who fought for the new light, announced Wednesday.
“This new signal will make a busy intersection much safer for both pedestrians and drivers,” Pisciottano said. “Implementing traffic infrastructure is often a very slow process; there’s a lot of red tape to get through. I’m pleased with how quickly we were able to make this happen.”
William Soliday II has been held behind bars without bail since his arrest in December after, police say, he hit a school van Sept. 20 with his Volkswagen Jetta and killed 15-year-old Serra Catholic High School sophomore Samantha Kalkbrenner. Authorities allege Soliday was drag-racing that morning at speeds up to 107 mph.
The traffic light, which is set to turn on Thursday morning, will be replaced by a permanent signal in the next two years as part of the state Turnpike Commission’s Mon/Fayette Expressway project.
