Here are some of the latest news items from this morning, Friday, Sept. 5:
Mt. Lebanon High School threat
Mt. Lebanon High School will be learning virtually Friday after district officials were alerted to a threat against the school in a Thursday night social media post.
According to a message sent to families, just after 9 p.m. Thursday, the district received several Safe2Say tips, emails and calls about a social media post by a student. The post included a photo of the high school interior and language suggesting a potential threat. The incident was reported to Mt. Lebanon Police Department to investigate the origins of the post.
“At this point, the Mt. Lebanon Police do not believe the individual had the means to cause harm. However, due to the time of day in which this occurred, we want the police department to have adequate time to conduct a thorough investigation,” the message from superintendent Melissa Friez said. “This includes, out of an abundance of caution, a search of the high school campus with officers and K-9’s.”
Student are not permitted on campus while the investigation continues. Additional security measures will be in place to ensure the safety of students and staff, and appropriate criminal and school consequences will apply, the message said.
As a result, students are completing a flexible instruction day.

A tractor-trailer overturned in the southbound lanes of Interstate 279 near Franklin Park early Friday morning.
Allegheny County 911 said reports of the incident came in at 1:10 a.m.
Traffic was getting by in a single lane in the southbound lanes after the crash.
Dispatchers said there were no injuries on the scene. Pennsylvania State Police have jurisdiction over the scene, dispatchers said.
11 Pennsylvania lottery winners
While no one has struck gold with the $1.7 billion Powerball jackpot, lottery officials announced Thursday that 11 winning tickets in the most recent Powerball drawing were sold in Pennsylvania for a total of $2.4 million in prizes.
One winner was a ticket sold at a Shell gas station on Painters Run Road in Scott Township. Pennsylvania Lottery officials said the ticket matched all five white balls drawn — 3, 16, 29, 61, 69 — to win a $1 million prize, before taxes.
The shop earned a $5,000 bonus for selling the ticket, lottery officials said.
Another winner was a $100,000 winner sold at a Giant Eagle grocery store in Slippery Rock, Butler County. The ticket matched four of the white balls, and the buyer also paid $1 for the Power Play option that doubled the prize from $50,000, officials said.
Aside from these two winners, officials said one prize worth $500,000 was sold in Centre County and eight other prizes worth $100,000 were sold in various parts of the state.
