Juvenile accused of leading police on chase

Pittsburgh police were led early Monday on a high-speed chase near East Carson Street in the South Side that ended with the suspect’s vehicle crashing into a home.

No one inside the home was reported to have been injured, police said.

Police attempted a traffic stop at about 12:30 a.m. at the intersection of East Carson and Arlington Avenue for a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed without headlights on, according to Pittsburgh Public Safety officials.

After a short pursuit, police called off the chase. The driver eventually lost control of the vehicle near South 12th Street in the South Side Flats, authorities said. The vehicle struck an empty parked vehicle before colliding into a home.

Officers determined that the vehicle had been reported stolen. The driver, a juvenile female, was taken into custody.

There were two juvenile passengers in the vehicle at the time as well. One of them was taken to a local hospital in stable condition, police said.

An investigation is ongoing.

Woman injured in New Castle fire

A 65-year-old woman was taken to the hospital Sunday after a fire broke out at her New Castle home, according to TribLive news partner WTAE.

Lawrence County dispatchers said crews were called to the 300 block of East Fairmont Avenue after 3 p.m.

The fire appeared to have started in the living room, according to New Castle Fire Chief Josh Riley. Crews battled the fire more than an hour, he said.

New Castle Firefighters posted to Facebook, saying smoke was visible while units were responding to the scene. Fire did not spread to neighboring homes, according to the post.

Officials said the resident was able to escape and was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation.

The home suffered serious damage, authorities said.
