Polish Hill building catches fire, investigation continues

Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire and emergency service teams responded Sunday to a fire in the city’s Polish Hill District.

Crews reached the 3000 block of Brereton Street at approximately 10 p.m. and had the flames under control by 10:52 p.m., according to a Pittsburgh Public Safety report. One person was evaluated by EMS but was found without injury. According to the report, warming services were provided to the teams at the scene.

The Fire Investigation Unit also responded and an investigation is ongoing, but no details have been made available.

Community rallies around Elizabeth Forward band program

Following a fire at Elizabeth Forward High School on early Sunday morning, local school district band directors are working to raise money to help the band reach a competition in Disney. A trip that is scheduled to begin Wednesday.

Band directors are pooling together their own money to loan to the program, and Mt. Lebanon Band Director Jason Cheskawich is collecting donations through Venmo @Jason-Cheskawich. Collection dates will run through Sunday.

Cause of death determined for Braddock man found in Allegheny River

The Allegheny County Medical Examiner has determined the cause of death of a Braddock man found in the Allegheny River in August.

According to the findings, 39-year-old Dwayne Fletcher died in an accidental drowning.

Fletcher’s body was found the morning of Aug. 16 at 100 block of Art Rooney Avenue.
