Police investigate Mt. Oliver shooting
Allegheny County Police have opened an investigation after being called to the scene of a shooting early Wednesday morning.
Police said the were called to the 300 block of Onyx Avenue in the Mt. Olive neighborhood of Pittsburgh just before 3:30 a.m. Wednesday morning after receiving reports of a shooting.
First responders treat a woman with “injuries related to the shooting,” police said. She was transported to a hospital for further treatment. She was in stable condition, police said.
An investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the County Police Tip Line at 1-833-ALL-TIPS. Callers can remain anonymous.
Truck hauling fast food condiments overturns along I-70 West
A person was extracted from a tractor-trailer Tuesday morning along I-70 West near mile marker 47.
According to a Facebook post from the Rostraver Township Fire Department, the truck was hauling fast food condiments when it left the roadway and overturned.
The driver was helped out of the vehicle through the windshield, and evaluated on scene by Rostraver West Newton Emergency Services. The post did not say if the driver was taken to the hospital.
Fire units contained a diesel spill from the vehicle’s fuel tanks. The post said the fuel tanks were offloaded by the Westmoreland County Hazardous Materials Response Team.
Pittsburgh Police release latest South Side Patrol statistics
Pittsburgh Police released arrest and citation numbers from the department’s South Side Entertainment Patrol, a focused enforcement effort in the East Carson Street corridor.
From Nov. 12 to Nov. 23, officers conducted 27 traffic stops, issued four traffic citations, 57 parking citations, 11 tows and 22 non-traffic citations. They also made 12 arrests and seized three firearms.
Police said majority of the non-traffic arrests were for open containers, public urination, disorderly conduct, public drunkenness, underage consumption of alcohol and possession of, or smoking marijuana in public.
Police started the South Side Entertainment Patrol in July 2023. The initiative launched in response to a spike in violence and quality-of-life crimes along East Carson Street. The patrol operates Thursday through Sunday.
Pittsburgh Police release latest Downtown Public Safety Center statistics
Pittsburgh Police also released arrest and citation numbers from the department’s Downtown Public Safety Center, a “high visibility” effort in the Golden Triangle area.
The initiative launched July 2024 in a response to a spike in assaults and other quality-of-life concerns in the area.
From Nov. 10 to Nov. 23, Police made 53 arrests and 43 non-traffic stops. They issued 19 parking tickets, six tows and made five traffic stops. They confiscated one gun.
Detectives also conducted a tobacco sales investigation and issued citations to 13 businesses checked for selling tobacco to minors.
The initiative involves various strategies like increased foot and bike patrols, a patrol vehicle operating during evening and overnight hours and collaboration between the public safety center, social service workers and community stakeholders.
