Shooting reported at water steps on Pittsburgh’s North Shore
Pittsburgh police responded to reports of a shooting Sunday in the area of the water steps on Pittsburgh’s North Shore.
Police were called to the 200 block of North Shore Drive near the water steps that lead to the riverwalk along the Allegheny River around 2:30 a.m. for reports of shots being fired.
A man with a gunshot wound to the torso was later dropped off at a hospital in stable condition, public safety officials said.
The city’s violent crime unit is investigating.
1 arrested after man wounded with gunshot graze to the head in Hazelwood
A man was wounded Saturday night from a gunshot graze to the head in Pittsburgh’s Hazelwood neighborhood, public safety officials said.
Police were called to the 230 block of East Elizabeth Street after a one-round ShotSpotter alert. The man was taken to the hospital in stable condition, public safety officials said, and a suspect was arrested soon after.
The victim told police his cousin, Kevin McGuire, 31, of Pittsburgh had shot him and was inside an Elizabeth Street home, according to the criminal complaint.
Police surrounded the home and called for McGuire to leave the residence. Two witnesses left the home, followed by McGuire, who was taken into custody without incident.
A witness told police McGuire and his cousin had been out partying. When they returned to the Elizabeth Street home, the victim tried to leave in his vehicle and McGuire tried to stop him, apparently believing he was too intoxicated to drive, the witness told police. A physical altercation broke out, officials said in the criminal complaint, and then a witness heard a gunshot.
According to the criminal complaint, McGuire gave police inconsistent statements during an interview.
McGuire told police he felt threatened during the fight because the victim, who officials have not identified, was bigger, the criminal complaint said, adding that McGuire told police he acted in self defense.
McGuire is being held in the Allegheny County Jail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 18.

A 17-year-old was shot in the leg near the border of Pittsburgh’s Homewood West and Homewood South neighborhoods Sunday.
Public safety officials said medics transported him to the hospital in stable condition after multiple shots were fired in the 700 block of Susquehanna Street.
The Mobile Crime Unit processed evidence at the scene, officials said, and an investigation is ongoing.
