Shooting wounds man in Pittsburgh’s Homewood North neighborhood

A man was in stable condition after he was wounded in a shooting Tuesday evening in Pittsburgh’s Homewood North neighborhood.

Pittsburgh police found a man suffering from a gunshot wound to his arm after they responded to a ShotSpotter alert shortly before 6:30 p.m. in the 7000 block of Monticello Street.

The alert indicated eight rounds were fired. The gunfire damaged two nearby homes, but no one inside as injured, according to Pittsburgh Public Safety.

Police recovered a firearm and shell casings and are continuing an investigation.


Pittsburgh police investigate stabbing in Knoxville

Pittsburgh police are investigating after a man with stab wounds in his neck and lower back told first responders he was stabbed by an unknown man Tuesday morning in the city’s Knoxville neighborhood.

City police and EMS responded when the injured man walked into Medic Station 8 at about 11:15 a.m. in the city’s Allentown neighborhood.

The man, who was taken in stable condition to a local hospital, told officers he was stabbed about three hours earlier during a physical altercation with an assailant in the 200 block of Bausman Street, Pittsburgh Public Safety reported.

Officers responded to the location but were unable to locate a crime scene.


Stormwater work to close road in Ross

A section of Jacks Run Road in Ross Township is set to close on the morning of Wednesday, Nov. 19 while Allegheny County public works crews replace a stormwater pipe.

The closure will be in place daily from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. between Balsam Street and Aspen Trail. It is expected to end later in the week or early in the following week.

Traffic will be detoured using Brighton Road and Bascom Avenue. Access will be maintained for Jacks Run Road residents.


Barnes & Noble opens East Liberty store

A new Barnes & Noble bookstore was set to open at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 19 at The Meridian retail center in Pittsburgh’s East Liberty neighborhood.

Marie Benedict, author of “The Queens of Crime,” will be on hand to sign copies of her book.

The 10,000-square-foot store is among more than 700 locations for the chain. It had less than 600 locations as recently as 2023.

Other stores and eateries at The Meridian, at Shady and Penn avenues, include Market District, Shake Shack, Atarashi, Meridian Nail Bar, Sephora, Cava and Wushiland Boba
