East Pittsburgh man accused of child assault

An East Pittsburgh man accused of assaulting a 7-year-old child was arrested Monday after a brief foot pursuit by police and SWAT, Allegheny County Police said.

Ryan Gainer, 45, faces charges stemming from an Oct. 15 incident in Turtle Creek where Eastern Mon Valley Regional Police were called to investigate a child assault. A boy was found to have multiple injuries to his legs, back and arms, as well as a black eye.

A warrant was issued for Gainer’s arrest. Police said Gainer was also wanted on a separate warrant stemming from an incident in September.

On Monday, police learned that Gainer was staying in a tent in the woods off Ridge Avenue in East Pittsburgh.

Allegheny County Police SWAT conducted surveillance in the area and spotted Gainer leaving a home in the 500 block of Ridge Avenue. He fled on foot and was arrested shortly after on Electric Avenue.

Gainer is in the Allegheny County Jail awaiting a preliminary arraignment.

Pittsburgh Police, Eastern Mon Valley Regional Police and the U.S. Marshals Western Pennsylvania Fugitive Task Force assisted in the operation. _______________________________________

The tunnel has been closed since February for track replacement and other infrastructure upgrades.

Detoured rail service through Allentown will end, and the “Subway Local” rail shuttle will be discontinued, while rail service returns to Station Square. Fare collection will also resume at Station Square.
