State’s $272K grants target electric vehicles
Pittsburgh Public Works and other city employees could soon be driving electric vehicles to do the city’s work, thanks to a $272,152 state grant.
The state Department of Environmental Protection said it has awarded Pittsburgh the grant to help buy 30 electric cars, 15 electric transit vans and 10 dual-plug level 2 chargers to help the city switch to clean transportation vehicles. The state said Tuesday the money will be used to replace older gasoline-or-diesel-powered vehicles.
Flyspace Productions LLC of Pittsburgh, which plans and produces events for nonprofits and private companies, was awarded a $13,500 grant to help pay for an electric pickup and cargo van to make deliveries and tow event equipment.
The two Alternative Fuels Incentive grants from the DEP were part of a $1.5 million funding statewide to municipalities, non-profits and organizations to help replace older gasoline-or-diesel-fueled vehicles with clean fuel transportation. The money distributed throughout the state is expected to be used to replace 88 old gasoline-or-diesel vehicles with 78 electric and 10 renewable natural gas vehicles and install 36 chargers for electric vehicles.
