Water main repairs close section of Route 28

A section of inbound Route 28 has been closed as crews repair a water main break.

The issue was reported Monday afternoon on a hillside across from the 40th Street Bridge.

One of the inbound lanes of Route 28 is under the restriction while crews work on repairs, according to PennDOT. The closure affected traffic during Tuesday morning’s commute, with backups at some points extending over the Route 8 overpass in Etna toward the Highland Park Bridge.

The repair work is likely to continue through Tuesday, with Pittsburgh Water reporting the estimated restoration time as 7 a.m. Wednesday.

Clairton woman arrested in connection to Troy Hill stabbing

Pittsburgh police arrested Savannah Francis, 28, of Clairton in connection to a stabbing early Sunday morning in the city’s Troy Hill neighborhood.

According to police, officers responded to the 1600 block of Hatteras Street just before 3 a.m. for reports of a domestic disturbance.

At the scene, police said they found a man with a stab wound to the left side of his chest. He was taken to a hospital in stable condition.

Francis was taken to the Allegheny County Jail. She is charged with aggravated assault, possessing instruments of crime and reckless endangerment.
