Two motorcyclists died in separate crashes with vans in North Versailles Sunday, according to Allegheny County police.

The first happened around 4 p.m. at Westinghouse and 5th avenues, police said. The motorcycle was driven by a man who was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead.

The Allegheny County Medical Examiner identified him as Benjamin Petkovsek, 23, of Monroeville.

The man driving the minivan was in stable condition after being taken to a hospital, police said.

The second happened shortly after 9:30 p.m. at Lincoln Highway and Clyde Avenue, police said. As in the first crash, the man driving the motorcycle was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The medical examiner identified him as Darien Clark, 27, of Beaver Falls.

The van driver was not hurt, police said.

Preliminary information shows both vehicles were traveling west on Lincoln Highway when the van was making a left turn on Clyde Avenue and was hit by the motorcycle, police said.

Anyone with information about the incidents is asked to call the county police tip line at 833-255-8477. Callers can remain anonymous.

Prior to these crashes, the region had seen at least six motorcycle fatalities this spring. There were 238 motorcyclist deaths in 2023, a 20-year high, according to PennDOT.
