‘Mullet on the Move’: Radio host brings hair style to Hampton, emulating country music star Morgan Wallen
Welcome the return of the mullet.
Three decades after hockey legend Jaromir Jagr helped propel the hair style’s popularity in Pittsburgh, Cadillac Jack is bringing it back.
Jack, the alter ego of WDSY-FM morning show host Tom Kapasis, launched a “Mullet on the Move” campaign in advance of Morgan Wallen’s June concerts at PNC Park by growing his mane in a manner similar to the country music star’s: short out front and lengthy behind.
The idea is to visit various places and ask folks to judge how Kapasis’ mullet is doing, and a March 16 stop was at Hampton Community Library. He and Y108 weekend host Julez Zarnick even brought along lunch, courtesy of Sneaky Pete’s Pittsburgh in Green Tree.
“Every week, we just call a random business on the phone,” Kapasis said, and when staff member Carrie McCarthy answered at the library, she thought welcoming “Mullet on the Move” sounded like a fine idea.
She ran it by library director Suzanna Krispli, who agreed.

“It’s wonderful to get such great publicity, such good exposure,” Krispli said. She did mention one potential issue about the timing of the visit:
“We even said, ‘You’re going to come during storytime. Are you sure you want to do this?’ And he said, ‘Absolutely.’ So here he comes, and they’re over there singing ‘Dinosaur Stomp’ and ‘Brown Bear, Brown Bear.’”
The library hosts drop-in “It’s a Wonder-ful World!” events for children starting at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday through Thursday, and about 20 people were participating, including parents and grandparents, when the Y108 folks arrived.
“Mullet on the Move” involves more than Kapasis letting his hair down, so to speak.
“We’re going to tie in St. Jude’s Research Hospital and make it a fundraiser,” he said about the charitable institution founded by the late entertainer Danny Thomas. “And we’ve got something really special planned, hopefully with Morgan Wallen, that we can’t really say yet.”
A multiple-time nominee for the Academy of Country Music’s On-Air Personality of the Year and the Country Music Association’s Broadcast Personality of the Year, Kapasis has been at WDSY since July.
“I grew up in Chicago, but I love this city,” he said. “I flew in for an interview to do mornings, and they took me to lunch. They took me to dinner, and they took me to a Pirates game.
“It was a beautiful day coming through the tunnel, and when it opened up, I saw the skyline of Pittsburgh. I was like, where do I sign?”
