Covid-19 numbers tallied for Murrysville-Delmont-Export area

The most recent state data shows 267 people in the Murrysville area have had confirmed cases of coronavirus since the start of the pandemic in March, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

The confirmed cases show an increase of 52 since Oct. 27.

The health department on Monday released the most recent figures for the three ZIP codes that comprise the area. The health department keeps a count of cases and test results for communities based on ZIP codes.

The largest number of cases, 128, are from residents in the 15668 ZIP code, which is strictly Murrysville.

The 15632 ZIP code, which encompasses Export, much of eastern Murrysville and a slice of Washington Township, shows 96 confirmed cases.

And there have been 43 confirmed cases in the 15626 ZIP code, which includes Delmont along with small slivers of Murrysville and Salem.

There have been 4,202 negative test results in those areas, figures show. Of the full number of tests administered, 4,469, the region has seen just under 6% come back positive.

Across its five buildings, the Franklin Regional School District has seen six cases of covid-19 since the school year began, none of which caused schools to close. The school board next meets 7:30 p.m. Nov. 16. Meetings are streamed through the district’s YouTube channel.

According to the state’s covid-19 tracking website, in Westmoreland County there have been 4,554 confirmed cases, 877 probable cases, 55,532 negative tests and 129 deaths since the outbreak began.

Despite a small spike in late June and early July, the county’s daily confirmed case counts had remained relatively low until a sharp uptick beginning in late September. That number went back and forth, but has remained much larger than in the pandemic’s early stages, reaching an all-time high of 141 positive cases reported Tuesday.
