Export officials awarded a bid to replace and repair fencing around the borough’s playground on Roosevelt Avenue.

Council voted unanimously Tuesday to award a $14,700 contract to Murrysville-based Leisure Time of America for repairs and replacement of the playground fencing, not including a proposal in the bid for several thousand dollars’ worth of tree planting.

The bid includes removing a retaining wall which will be replaced with a boulder wall.

LATERAL ORDINANCE

Council also unanimously approved a new ordinance related to sewage lateral inspections on property sales and property refinancing.

The ordinance mandates that the borough will not issue any no-lien letters on a property until its sewage lateral has been inspected. Solicitor Wes Long said the ordinance will help ensure that real estate companies are not bypassing the inspections before closing on a property.

Securing the no-lien letter will require a $350 fee that pays for an inspection within 30 days by the Franklin Township Municipal Sanitary Authority.

“We want to make sure everyone’s aware that we’re not going to tolerate this,” Long said.

PARKING LOT LINES

Mayor Joe Zaccagnini met recently with the newly formed Export Business Association, whose members asked the borough to consider repainting lines the borough parking lot off Washington Avenue, in order to maximize the lot’s usage.

“They would like to make sure people aren’t parking in a space-and-a-half,” Zaccagnini said.

The mayor said he would bring bids back for council to consider at its November meeting. The cost is not expected to reach the $11,300 threshold that requires official public bid solicitation.

HALLOWEEN DATES

The annual Export Halloween Parade will take place Oct. 29 (details to be announced in the coming weeks), and trick-or-treating will be from 6-8 p.m., Oct. 31 in the borough.
