Seman and McCarthy were selected this week as recipients by their respective colleges.

Two Franklin Regional students are among more than 3,500 winners of National Merit Scholarships financed by U.S. colleges and universities.

Jaden A. Seman of Delmont and Clare C. McCarthy of Murrysville were named scholarship winners after being named among 16,000 finalists nationwide in the fall.

Seman plans to attend Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va., to pursue a degree in biochemistry.

McCarthy plans to attend Emory University in Atlanta, and is undecided as to a major.

An additional group of Scholars will be announced in July, bringing the total number of college-sponsored Merit Scholarship recipients in the 2019 competition to about 4,100.

Scholarship winners announced today are a part of the distinguished group of about 7,600 high school seniors who will receive National Merit Scholarships for college undergraduate study worth over $31 million.
