Delmont police host food drive
The Delmont Police Department will host a Nov. 23 food drive for the Westmoreland Food Bank.
It will be from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Delmont Borough Garage, 30 Bierer St.
Only nonperishable food items will be accepted. The greatest need is for canned meats/fish, peanut butter, canned fruits and vegetables, macaroni and cheese and boxed meals or side dishes.
In addition to the food drive, a donation box will also be in place Nov. 22 at the Light Up Delmont celebration in Rose Wigfield Parklet.

Comedy night in Murrysville
The East Suburban Unitarian Universalist Church will host a Nov. 22 “UU After Dark Comedy Night” featuring local comedians Ellen Lundie, Asher O’Briant, Brittany Alexis, Mary Warwick and host Zoe Eadie.
It will be at 7 p.m. Nov. 22 at the church, 4326 Sardis Road in Murrysville. Charcuterie and snacks will be available by donation. Tickets are $20. They are available by presale only at TicketStripe.com/UUafterDark.
Bell ringers wanted
The Salvation Army is seeking local volunteers to serve as “bell ringers” during its holiday fundraising drive.
Ringers are needed every Friday and Saturday through Dec. 20 at the Walmart on Hollywood Boulevard in Salem. One-hour shifts are available from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Volunteers sought for food packing
The Friends Thrift Shop in Export is seeking volunteer to help pack 60,000 dry meal packets on Nov. 22.
Staff will be taking part in “Amen to Action,” packing the meals from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in partnership with the Pittsburgh Leadership Foundation at the shop, 5756 Kennedy Ave. in Export.
Volunteers are needed to scoop dry ingredients, seal and pack bags and stack boxes.

Scout skate
The Scouts from Troop 1239 invite the community to join them Nov. 22 for a “Skate with Scouts!” event from 1 to 2:20 p.m.
Scouting America Troop 1239 is a girls troop which meets in Penn Township’s Claridge neighborhood. Girls ages 11-17 are welcome to join.
The open skate will take place at Palmer Imaging Arena, 100 Center Ice Drive in Salem. Have fun skating and learn about scouting and the troop.

Red Barn Winery holiday market
The Red Barn Winery will host a “Holiday Market” from 12-4 p.m. Dec. 13.
The annual holiday event will include local vendors, a special market menu, baked goods and wine from the winery.

Light Up Export
Borough officials will host the annual Light Up Export from 6-9 p.m. Dec. 5 along Washington Avenue.
As in years past, the evening will include a cookie crawl featuring local businesses. Register for the crawl at the Export fire hall, 5821 Washington Ave..
‘Christmas at the Cabin’
The Murrysville Historical Preservation Society invites the public to celebrate the holiday season with “Christmas at the Cabin,” from 1-4 p.m. Nov. 22 at the Hoey/Staymates Cabin and Barn.
Visit with St. Nicholas and learn about his origins, taste pioneer-era sweets with hot cider and tea, see Victorian-style holiday postcards and a decorated tree, and create a take-home gingerbread house.
Pine Christmas swags, historical books, colonial toys and other items will be available for holiday shoppers.
The cabin is at 4515 Round Top Road in Murrysville. Parking is available at Staymates Court.

‘Holiday Ladies Night Out’
The Export Women of the Moose will host the annual “Holiday Ladies Night Out” from 6-9 p.m. Nov. 21 at the Moose social hall, 5903 Washington Ave. The evening will include vendors for holiday shopping, a Chinese auction, hors d’oeuvres and more.

Bel Suono Ensemble at symphony
Symphony East will host the Bel Suono Ensemble at its Nov. 17 program in Salem.
“Bel suono” means “beautiful sound” in Italian, and the group performs a variety of styles ranging from baroque to ragtime and jazz.
The cost is $15 for adults, and the program will begin at 1 p.m. at The Lamplighter, 6566 William Penn Highway in Salem. It is open to the public.

Light Up Delmont craft, vendor fair
Delmont will host its annual Light Up Delmont celebration at 5:30 p.m. Nov. 22 at the Rose Wigfield Parklet on Greensburg Street. Additionally, the Delmont Visionary Committee will host a vendor and craft fair from 11 a.m.-5:30 p.m. nearby at the Delmont Volunteer Fire Company.
The vendor and craft fair will feature unique gifts, music by the Delmont Concert Band, refreshments for purchase, a kids’ corner with games and activities, free family photos with a seasonal backdrop, free s’mores kits for children to bring to the “Holidaze” celebration at the parklet and more.
At the Light Up event, borough officials will light the Delmont Christmas tree at 6 p.m. with food and drink for those in attendance.
Leaf collection
Murrysville officials announced curb-side leaf collection dates for the fall. Collections will take place Nov. 22 and Dec. 6.
To schedule a pick-up, residents must fill out a registration form at Murrysville.com. There is a 20-bag limit for each collection date. The deadline to sign up is the Thursday prior to collection.

Delmont Resident of the Year nominations
Delmont officials are taking nominations for their Resident of the Year Awards, which will include adult and youth winners.
Nominees must be a current resident for the full year during which they are nominated. They cannot be an elected official or borough employee, and should have improved the borough through selfless acts of service without personal gain or compensation.

The winners will be announced at the borough’s “Holidaze” celebration, Nov. 22 at the Rose Wigfield Parklet on Greensburg Street.

Journalism scholarship
The Press Club of Western Pennsylvania is accepting applications for its 20th annual Bob Fryer Memorial Scholarship ($5,000) and the club’s annual $2,500 scholarship for aspiring journalists.
The awards are designed to encourage outstanding undergraduate journalism students in print, broadcasting and multimedia. Candidates must be sophomores or juniors enrolled in an accredited college or university in one of Western Pennsylvania’s 29 counties, including Allegheny, Westmoreland, Armstrong and Butler.

American Legion scholarships
The Pennsylvania American Legion is taking entries for its annual essay contest. Winners will receive scholarships of $3,500, $3,000 or $2,500.
The contest is open to students in grades 9-12. Students can be from public, private, parochial, cyber/charter or home-schooled.

Laurel Harmony performance
The Laurel Harmony Chorus, a Greensburg-based chapter of Sweet Adelines International, invites the public to its autumn performance, “A Harvest of Harmony,” at 2:30 p.m. Nov. 22.
The performance will be held at Zion Lutheran Church, 3417 Route 130, Harrison City.
Tickets are available at the door for $10 for adults and $5 for ages 12 and under. The ticket price includes light refreshments and a chance for a door prize. Tickets for a separate basket raffle will be sold at the event.

AARP seeking tax-prep aides
The AARP Foundation is seeking volunteers to be trained for its tax aide program, the nation’s largest free volunteer-based tax preparation program.
