Police host drug take-back, license plate replacement

Murrysville Police will host a National Drug Take-Back Day event as well as a license plate replacement event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 29 at the police station.

Residents can anonymously dispose of unused prescription drugs and other medications. A sharps container will be on-site for needles and Epi-pens.

In addition, residents with damaged or illegible license plates can fill out an MV-44 form for a new registration plate at no cost.

A license plate is deemed illegible when one more numbers or letter cannot be recognized from 50 feet away, or if the plate shows blistering, peeling or loss of reflectivity.

Faith-based recovery seminar set for Oct. 21

Cornerstone Ministries will host “Lift! Where Faith Meets Recovery,” from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Oct. 21 at the church, 2200 Cornerstone Lane in Murrysville.

The free symposium will explore faith-based recovery practices to battle addiction. The event is presented by Revive & Restore Recovery Ministry.

Halloween parade in Export

The Export Halloween Parade will take place at 7 p.m. on Oct. 28, with sign-ups beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the Export Volunteer Fire Department station at the corner of Washington Avenue and Lincoln Avenue.

‘Work of Our Hands’ craft show

The 11th “Work of Our Hands” craft show will take place from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Nov. 4 at the Lamplighter Restaurant.

The show will feature an artisan market and craft vendors ranging from fiber art, jewelry and pottery to natural soaps, botanical art, photography, cross-stitch and more.

The Lamplighter is at 6566 William Penn Highway in Salem.

Oktoberfest at Newhouse Park

The Delmont Recreation Committee will host an Oct. 22 Oktoberfest celebration at Newhouse Park, off Stotler Road in Delmont.

It will be at 3 p.m. The cost is $10 for adults (children are free) and includes kielbasa, sauerkraut, hot dogs and pumpkin decorating. Proceeds will benefit future committee events in the borough.

Land trust to host Westmoreland Ramble

The Westmoreland Land Trust has announced its 2022 Westmoreland Ramble, a chance for residents to explore parts of Murrysville, Export and Delmont by car to enjoy the fall scenery.

There is no set date for this year’s Ramble, but instead has been published as a route with information about the area’s parks, nature preserves and historic features. The 18.2-mile drive is detailed in steps at Westmoreland-LandTrust.org.

Volunteers sought for ‘Trick or Treat on the Trail’

Murrysville Recreation Department officials are seeking local businesses and organizations to set up tables along the Westmoreland Heritage Trail for its Oct. 29 “Trick or Treat on the Trail” event.

From noon to 2 p.m., groups will hand out treats.

Groups will meet at the Murrysville Community Center, 3091 Carson Avenue in Murrysville.

Fall craft and vendor show

Monroeville United Methodist Church will host a fall craft and vendor show from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 29 at the church, 219 Center Road in Monroeville.

There will be roughly 50 vendors including artist Linda Barnicott. Refreshments will be available to buy, and proceeds will go toward the church’s missions.

Christian Art Show set for Oct. 22-23

The 46th annual Christian Art Show will take place Oct. 22-23 at Calvary Lutheran Church in Murrysville.

Show hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 22, and 12-4 p.m. Oct. 23. Lunch will be available, and a bake sale fundraiser will be held.

Murrysville schedules leaf and yard-waste pickups

Murrysville and municipal hauler Republic Services announced dates for leaf and yard-waste pickup this fall: Nov. 12 and Dec. 3, all Saturdays. To schedule a pickup, fill out the Curbside Leaf Collection Program form available at Murrysville.com.

There is a 20-bag limit. The sign-up deadline is the Thursday prior to the pickup date. Leaves must be in biodegradable leaf bags. Packages of five bags can be purchased at local hardware and home improvement stores.

Do not place grass clippings, trash, recycling materials or any other refuse in the bags. Small twigs and brush cannot exceed 3 inches in diameter and 48 inches in length.

Pink ribbon campaign at Panera

Panera locations in Greensburg, Monroeville, Murrysville, North Huntingdon and more will participate in the company’s Pink Ribbon Bagel fundraising campaign during October’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

A portion of proceeds from each pink ribbon bagel will go to the Young Women’s Breast Cancer Awareness Foundation and Cancer Bridges. The campaign raised more than $47,000 in 2021.

Collection for used book sale

The Murrysville branch of the American Association of University Women will hold its annual book sale Nov. 10-12, and is accepting book donations at the library, 4130 Sardis Road in Murrysville.

Donations can be fiction, nonfiction and children’s books, as well as complete jigsaw puzzles and video games. Encyclopedias, manuals, textbooks and musty/moldy books will not be accepted.

The group is also seeking volunteers to help with the annual sale.

The Women’s Business Network’s Murrysville chapter will meet on the second and fourth Thursday of the month, 8:15 a.m. at Dick’s Diner, 4100 William Penn Highway in Murrysville.

The AARP Foundation is seeking volunteers to train for its tax aide program, the nation’s largest volunteer-based tax preparation service.

The group is looking for volunteers to help support tax preparation activities in Murrysville, Delmont, Penn Township, Trafford and North Huntingdon. Open positions include tax return preparer, client facilitator and appointment scheduler.

The Association of University People’s club for single college graduates age 50 and over invites potential new members to join them for monthly dinners, gatherings and more.
