Fish fry fundraiser

The Franklin Regional Panthers Against Cancer Club will host a fish fry Feb. 20 to raise money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Supporting Blood Cancer United.

The fundraiser is part the society’s annual Student Visionaries of the Year program, where students are tasked with taking the lead in organizing fundraisers to benefit cancer research.

The fish fry will be from 4-8 p.m. at the Italian American Club, 5930 Kennedy Ave. in Export. A 50/50 drawing will also be held, along with a bake sale.

‘Shrek the Musical’ at Franklin Regional

Franklin Regional students will present “Shrek the Musical” at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 26-28 and 2 p.m. March 1 at the senior high school, 3200 School Road in Murrysville.

Online tickets are available at FRHSmusical.com — they are $15 for adults and $10 for students.

Purchasing tickets online is encouraged. The box office will open an hour before showtime for each show, only if tickets are still available.

School board meeting changes

The Franklin Regional school board has changed its meetings dates for the next few months.

Monthly combined committee of the whole and voting meetings will be held on March 23 and April 27at 7:30 p.m. at the Murrysville municipal building, 4100 Sardis Road.

Meetings also are broadcast live on Comcast local access Channel 21, and livestreamed on the district’s YouTube page.

Bushy Run events

Bushy Run Battlefield in Penn Township will host a speaker on Feb. 21 and its annual Charter Day on March 8.

The speaker, part of the historical site’s regular “History Speaks” series, will discuss how Bushy Run is portrayed in films. The event will be held at 1 p.m. at the museum, 1253 Route 993. Admission is $15 for regular attendees and $10 for those who are members of the Bushy Run Battlefield Heritage Society. Popcorn is included in admission.

Charter Day recognizes the day in 1681 when William Penn received a grant of 26 million acres from English King Charles II — land that would become Pennsylvania. Attendees can explore the museum and speak with reenactors about the state’s history.

The event will be held from noon to 3 p.m. in the museum and is free to attend. Cake, drinks and snacks will be served.

Delmont VFD Auxiliary super bingo

The Delmont Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary will host a $6,000 super bingo night at 6:30 p.m. March 7. Doors open at 5 p.m.

Tickets are $35 in advance and $40 at the door. No one under age 14 is permitted. It will be at the fire hall, 2360 Route 66 in Delmont.

Cake decorating fundraiser

The Franklin Regional Panthers Against Cancer Club will host a March 7 cake decorating fundraiser at The Kitchen by Vangura, 14431 Vangura Lane in North Huntingdon.

The club is raising money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society through its Student Visionaries of the Year program. The cost is $75 and all proceeds go toward the club’s fundraising.

Participants will take home a decorated flower cake.

Delmont K-9 fundraiser

The Delmont Police Department will host a spaghetti dinner fundraiser for its K-9 program.

The event will be held from 2-6 p.m. Feb. 21 at the Delmont Volunteer Fire Department, 2360 Route 66. The meal will include an entree, salad, beverage and dessert.

Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for children age 12 and younger. There will be a basket raffle and 50/50 drawing.

Bless a Dress

The Delmont Public Library is hosting a collection for the “Bless a Dress Pittsburgh” program, collecting gently used homecoming or prom dresses, along with shoes and jewelry.

The clothing will be made available to students who need or cannot afford a prom dress. The collection will continue through March 6 at the library, 75 School St. in Delmont.

Preschool registration

Registration for the Newlonsburg Church Preschool program is underway.

The church is at 4600 Old William Penn Highway, Murrysville.

Church organizing 7th annual purse bash

St. Nicholas Serbian Orthodox Church is sponsoring its seventh annual Purse Bash Fundraiser from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. Feb. 21 — doors will open at 11:30 — in the church’s social hall, 2110 Haymaker Road, Monroeville.

Tickets are $50 each and includes 20 chances to bid on designer purses.

Lunch is provided along with soft drinks, coffee and tea. A cash bar will be available; no outside alcohol is permitted.

Winners must be present to claim all prizes.

Optional lotteries for additional purses and raffles also will be available to purchase.

3 Rivers Psychic Fair set for March 14-15

The 3 Rivers Psychic Fair, featuring more than 55 vendors, returns from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 14-15 at Comfort Inn, 699 Rodi Road, Penn Hills.

Workshops will be available on a variety of topics, including manifesting, authenticity, feminine rising, group psychic medium readings and telepathy.

The fair takes place three times a year in and around the city of Pittsburgh. The next events are scheduled for July 25 and Oct. 17-18. The fair offers psychic, intuitive and medium readings, as well as Reiki and energy healers and holistic products.

The mission of the fair is to connect, heal and educate. It aims to help people expand their minds, learn about their bodies and kindle their inner flames.

Admission is $5, payable by cash or credit card. There also will be a 50-50.

AARP tax-prep

The AARP Foundation will host several sessions for its annual tax preparation program in Murrysville.

Sessions will take place Feb. 27, March 13 and 27 and April 10 at the Murrysville Community Center, 3091 Carson Ave. Advance appointments are required by calling 724-374-3780. Walk-ins are not permitted.

Heating assistance program enrollment

The federally funded Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, or LIHEAP, has opened enrollment for the season, offering one-time cash grants to qualifying applicants to help with home heating bills or emergency repairs.

Households can apply through April 10 or until the funds are depleted.

Association of University People

The Association of University People invites potential new members to join them at an event.

The association welcomes singles aged 50 and older, who are four-year college graduates, to join them for activities and to meet new people. Activities include picnics, monthly dinners, a book group and meetups at local concerts and wineries.
