Murrysville Giant Eagle to close for remodeling

The Murrysville Giant Eagle on Old William Penn Highway will close beginning July 9 for remodeling to become one of the chain’s Market District locations.

The store also recently acquired a liquor license and will be adding an alcohol sales section along with a small sitting area.

The pharmacy will remain open during renovations.

Westmoreland Conservancy meeting in Murrysville

The Westmoreland Conservancy will hold its June 22 meeting at the new wildlife observation blind along the universal pedestrian trail at the conservancy’s Morosini Reserve in Murrysville.

The board will be presented with two Eagle Scout projects for approval: a fully accessible platform along the trail overlooking the pond, and an observation platform at the reserve’s eastern field, which provides a full 360-degree view of the area.

In the event of inclement weather, the meeting will be held in the usual location, the Delmont Public Library, 75 School St.

Free craft workshop in Export

The Rewind-Reuse Center in Export will host an “Imagination Day” featuring free children’s crafts from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 25.

The day will take place over four sessions starting at 9:30 a.m. (full), 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. at the Export Community Park pavilion, at the end of the Westmoreland Heritage Trail parking lot in downtown Export.

Workshops will be taught by local makers and include lessons in puppetry, wood projects, creative jewelry and paper crafting. There will be giveaways and more.

Summer reading program at Murrysville library

The Murrysville Community Library will kick off its summer reading program, “Oceans of Possibilities,” on these dates for different age groups:

• Ocean Explorers (ages 3-6), 11 a.m. on Tuesdays beginning June 21.

• Seafaring Adventurers (kindergarten to grade 5 and ages 6-12), 11 a.m. on Thursdays beginning June 23.

• Treasure Hunters (ages 12-18), 4 p.m. on Tuesdays beginning June 21.

All programs will run for six weeks.

New for this summer is also a Citizen’s Science Camp, “Cloud Quest,” designed for middle-school children and featuring games, projects and hands-on investigations exploring the impact of clouds on weather and climate. It will run from 2-4 p.m. Wednesdays starting June 22, for children heading into grades 6-9.

Union Presbyterian to host drive-thru chicken dinner

Union Presbyterian Church in Washington Township will host a drive-thru mission chicken dinner from 4:30-6:30 p.m. on June 23.

In exchange for a freewill donation, the church will host a drive-thru for a dinner of baked chicken and gravy, baked potato with sour cream, green beans, roll and butter, applesauce and a cookie. Dinners will be served until the food runs out. Donations will go to Samaritan’s Purse for aid efforts in Ukraine as well as the Blackburn Center in Greensburg.

The church is at 656 Route 380 in Washington Township.

Penn Hills High School 50th reunion

Penn Hills High School’s class of 1973 will celebrate its 50-year reunion on Oct. 6, 2023, from 5-11 p.m. at Futules Harmar House in Harmarville.

Small Fry Scramble at Townsend Park

The Murrysville Recreation Department will host a “Small Fry Scramble,” half-mile, 1- and 2-mile runs for children age 12 and under, at 6:30 p.m. June 15 at Townsend Park.

The park is on Townsend Park Court in Murrysville.
