Mary Todd Lincoln presentation

The Delmont Historical Preservation Society will host a July 12 presentation on the life of Mary Todd Lincoln, wife of President Abraham Lincoln.

JoAnn Peterson will present a first-person historical performance at noon in the Delmont Presbyterian Church’s Carson Hall, 101 Church St. in Delmont.

There will be a presidential “Ladies and Gents” luncheon at noon, followed by the program at 1 p.m. Tickets are $25 per person.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the society’s fundraising to rebuild the historic watering trough on East Pittsburgh Street.

Veterans car show at Plum High School

The Head Turners Pittsburgh chapter invites the public to its first Veterans Car Show, set for 12-4 p.m. July 5 at Plum High School.

Registration for cars is $10 and will be from 10 a.m. to noon. Dash plaques will be given to the first 100 entrants. There is no cost to attend. The afternoon will include food trucks, basket raffles, a 50/50, vendors and a DJ.

Proceeds benefit Ligonier nonprofit Veterans Anything With Wheels shows an events.

Murrysville Concert in the Park

The annual Murrysville Concert in the Park will take place from 4 p.m. to dusk Aug. 9 at Murrysville Community Park.

This year’s lineup features Landline Bluegrass at 5:15 p.m., the Nied’s Hotel Band at 8 p.m., and a third band yet to be announced.

The concert is free and open to the public, and the afternoon will include food vendors, games and fireworks at dusk.

The park is at 4056 Wiestertown Road in Murrysville.

Playground program

The Murrysville Recreation Department’s annual playground program will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from July 7-30.

It will be at Murrysville Community Park, 4056 Wiestertown Road, and is for children ages 6-12. The cost is $10 per day, and no pre-registration is required. Activities will include games, visits to the splash pad, crafts, gaga ball and nature walks.

‘Keller’s Kritters’ at Delmont library

Keller’s Kritters, a family-run animal education program will make a July 10 stop at the Delmont Public Library for a presentation.

It will be at 5 p.m., open to children of all ages, and will feature facts and experiences with exotic animals.

Etiquette expert featured at speaker series

Liz Aquino, founder of the Good Manners Group, will be the featured speaker at the July 8 “Boomers & Beyond” speaker series at Mother of Sorrows Church in Murrysville.

Aquino will present tools to allow people to feel confident and comfortable in social situations, interactions and relationships.

The presentation will be at noon at the church’s social hall, 4202 Old William Penn Highway in Murrysville.

Participants may bring a brown bag lunch and a guest. Beverages are provided. There is no cost to attend.

Live music at Ginny’s

Ginny’s Neighborhood Pizza Joint in Murrysville will host live music events later this summer.

They include singer-songwriter Brian Genovesi from 7-9 p.m. Aug. 9, and Pittsburgh bluegrass group the Sweaty Already String Band from 7-10 p.m. Aug. 22.

Mother of Sorrows Community Festival

Mother of Sorrows Church in Murrysville will host its annual community festival Aug. 1-2 at the church, 4202 Old William Penn Highway.

It will feature a “Taste of Murrysville” food court staffed by local restaurants, live music by The Trucksters on Aug. 1 and The Lyin’ Hearts on Saturday, a kids’ zone, games of skill and chance for all ages, basket raffles and more.

‘Walk Through the Seasons’ hike

Herbalist Lindsay Praksti and the Westmoreland Conservancy will host a summer hike at 10 a.m. July 13 at the King Reserve in Murrysville.

The hike will set out from the King Reserve parking lot on Crowfoot Road and will follow the reserve’s Red Trail.

Playa Bowls opens

Playa Bowls, a national chain serving acai bowls, smoothies and juices, opened June 21 in the Blue Spruce Shoppes, on Blue Spruce Way in Murrysville.

The store is owned by Greensburg native Beth Bennett and her family.

The store employs 27 local staff members.

Farmers market

The Murrysville Farmers Market is open weekly through the end of summer. It will take place from 3-7 p.m. Thursday evenings outside the Murrysville Volunteer Fire Company at 3235 Sardis Road.

Scholarships available

The Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency is seeking entries from 2025-26 college students, graduate students and their parents to win a $2,500 scholarship sweepstakes from the PA Forward Student Loan Program.

Anyone who opts in to receive communications, which will include tips on planning for and paying for college, between June 5 and Dec. 15, 2025, will be entered into the scholarship sweepstakes. A total of 12 winners will be selected in August and in December this year, prior to each semester.

The PA Forward Scholarship Sweepstakes is open to Pennsylvania residents only.

Blood drives

Murrysville recreation officials will partner with the American Red Cross to host blood drives on July 16, Sept. 11 and Nov. 11. Drives will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Murrysville Community Center, 3091 Carson Ave.
