Robotics team presentation
The Franklin Regional FRobotics team will be the featured presenters at the next Mother of Sorrows “Boomers & Beyond” speaker series on June 10.
The FRobotics team has been competing against teams from the U.S. and across the globe as part of the FIRST Robotics Competition, founded in 1989 to encourage technology literacy and education.
It will be at noon at the church’s social hall, 4202 Old William Penn Highway. Attendees may bring a bag lunch and a friend.
Trail hosts Community Festival & Poker Run
Officials with the Westmoreland Heritage Trail will host their annual Community Festival & Poker Run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Export Community Pavilion, on Community Park Drive.
Poker run participants will stop at five checkpoints along the trail to pick up a playing card and build their poker hand while taking part in an 8-mile ride or 4-mile walk (round trip).
Following the poker run, the festival will include food vendors, music, kids’ activities and more.

Dog training demo rescheduled
Dog trainer Kevin Ziegler will host a rescheduled dog training demonstration at 6 p.m. June 12 at Sardis Park.
Ziegler, who has 47 years of canine training experience, will cover basic obedience, crate training, the basics of hunting and retrieving and preventing gun-shy behavior.
Participants are asked not to bring their dogs.

Walk for a Healthy Community
East Suburban Citizen Advocacy will join Highmark officials with a team in the annual “Walk For a Healthy Community,” set for June 14 at Stage AE on Pittsburgh’s North Shore.
The ESCA team is seeking donations and participants.
Walk-day registration will take place at 7:45 a.m. at Stage AE, 400 North Shore Drive in Pittsburgh. A 5K walk will begin at 9 a.m., with a 1-mile walk starting at 9:15 a.m.
The window for donations will remain open through June 30.

Blood drives
Murrysville recreation officials will partner with the American Red Cross to host blood drives on July 16, Sept. 11 and Nov. 11.
Drives will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Murrysville Community Center, 3091 Carson Avenue. To register and schedule an appointment, see RedCrossBlood.org.

Blessing of the Animals
A Blessing of the Animals event will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Avonmore from 6-8 p.m. June 8 on the church lawn. The church is located at 518 Indiana Avenue in Avonmore.
All animals are invited, domestic, farm and exotic. Each animal in attendance is to be leashed or in an appropriate container. Each animal will receive a blessing and a treat. Free light refreshments will served. A special guest will be in attendance.
Free-will donations of newspapers, pet foods, toys and cash will be accepted for Action for Animals Humane Society of Latrobe.
Camp Invention
Students in kindergarten through sixth grades are invited to take part in Camp Invention, a nationally recognized summer enrichment program, which will take place at several locations this summer in Murrysville.
Each year, the program features a new curriculum inspired by the new class of inductees at the National Inventors Hall of Fame.
It will be held June 16-20 at Franklin Regional Intermediate School, 4125 Sardis Road in Murrysville.

Norwin Class of ‘80 to hold reunion
The Norwin Class of 1980 will hold its 45th class reunion from 6 to 9:30 p.m. Aug. 16, at the Core Event Center, 100 Colony Drive, Irwin.
