Murrysville area: Rotary Oktoberfest, lunch-and-learn sessions and more
Rotary Oktoberfest set for Sept. 24
The Murrysville-Export Rotary’s annual Oktoberfest celebration will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 24 at the Murrysville Volunteer Fire Company pavilion, 3235 Sardis Road.
There will be German-style food, beer and wine from local food trucks, breweries and wineries, German music and a dirndl and lederhosen contest.
The cost is $10 for adults, and proceeds will benefit local Rotary charity efforts. Families and children are welcome.

‘Benefit for Dena’ set for Sept. 25 in Delmont
There will be a “Benefit for Dena” from noon to 4 p.m, Sept. 25, at the Delmont fire hall on Route 66 to raise money for Dena Dayton’s cancer treatment.
There is no cost for admission, and the event will include a 50/50 raffle, lottery board and Chinese auction. There will be food available from Melvin Doty and the fire company’s Ladies Auxiliary, live music by Keyboard Kevin, craft vendors and a cash bar.
The fire hall is at 2360 Route 66 in Delmont.

‘Boomers and Beyond’ sessions scheduled
Mother of Sorrows Church in Murrysville is continuing its “Boomers and Beyond” series of information lunches on the following dates:
• Oct. 12: the Rev. Msgr. James T. Gaston will present “Blessed Are Those Who Mourn — Really?” and will discuss understanding and misunderstanding grief. Gaston is the director of clergy formation for the Catholic Diocese of Greensburg.
• Nov. 9: John L. Haigh of Murrysville will present “Air Force One: An Honor, Privilege and Pleasure to Serve” based on his memoir serving as chief steward aboard Air Force One under three U.S. presidents.
• Dec. 14: Certified elder attorney Matthew Kitka of Julian Gray Associates will present “Elder Law: What Is It and What Do I Need to Know?” exploring how attorneys can help with all phases of the long-term care planning process, Medicaid eligibility, veteran benefits, estate planning and more.
Sessions will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Mother of Sorrow’s social hall, 4202 Old William Penn Highway in Murrysville. Participants are asked to bring a bag lunch. Beverages will be provided. There is no cost to attend.
