Santa at Sardis

The Murrysville Recreation Department will host its annual Santa at Sardis event from 1-4 p.m. Dec. 6 at Sardis Park.

The afternoon will include a bonfire, children’s activities, s’mores and photos with Santa. The park is located at the intersection of Saltsburg Road and Rocky Hill Lane in Murrysville.

AAUW speaker to discuss Winnie’s Wagon

The Murrysville branch of the American Association of University Women will welcome Homeless Children’s Education Fund President and CEO AJ Jefferson as its Dec. 11 guest speaker.

Jefferson will talk about Winnie’s Wagon, the first mobile classroom in southwestern Pennsylvania dedicated to serving children experiencing homelessness. It was created in partnership with the Pittsburgh Children’s Museum.

Jefferson is a Seton Hill University graduate and advocates for people with special needs in Allegheny County.

The program will be at 10 a.m. at the Murrysville Community Library, 4130 Sardis Road.

Delmont library programs

The Delmont Public Library, 75 School St., will host the following programs in December:

• Dec. 3: Pokemon party, 4:30 p.m. for kids ages 6-12. Enjoy an afternoon of card trading, games and fun activities.

• Dec. 6: Backyard Bird Explorers, 11 a.m. for kids ages 6-12. Explore fun facts, play nature-themed games and create a bird craft to take home.

• Dec. 18: Winter Birding 101, 5 p.m. for kids ages 6-12. Discover how birds stay warm in winter, find food in the snow and spot some of the region’s cold-weather avian residents.

Speaker discusses cognitive impairment

The Mother of Sorrows Boomers & Beyond series will welcome guest speaker Dr. Ellen Whyte at its Dec. 9 meeting.

Whyte will discuss the causes of abnormal cognitive aging and when it may be time to see a primary care physician or specialist.

It will be at noon at the church’s social hall, 4202 Old William Penn Highway in Murrysville. There is no cost to attend. Attendees may bring a bag lunch and a friend.

Bell ringers wanted

The Salvation Army is seeking local volunteers to serve as bell ringers during its holiday fundraising drive.

Ringers are needed every Friday and Saturday through Dec. 20 at the Walmart on Hollywood Boulevard in Salem. One-hour shifts are available from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Red Barn Winery holiday market

The Red Barn Winery will host a Holiday Market from 12-4 p.m. Dec. 13.

The annual holiday event will include local vendors, a special market menu, baked goods and wine from the winery.

It will be at the winery, 275 Manor Road in Salem.

Light Up Export

Borough officials will host the annual Light Up Export from 6-9 p.m. Dec. 5 along Washington Avenue.

As in years past, the evening will include a cookie crawl featuring local businesses. Register for the crawl at the Export fire hall, 5821 Washington Ave..

Leaf collection

Murrysville officials announced curbside leaf collection dates for the fall. The final collection will take place Dec. 6.

To schedule a pick-up, residents must fill out a registration form at Murrysville.com. There is a 20-bag limit. The deadline to sign up is the Thursday prior to collection.

Virtual holiday paint & sip

The Myasthenia Gravis Association of Western PA is hosting its Sixth Annual Virtual Holiday Paint & Sip Celebration to benefit MGA’s free patient support services.

This year’s event will be held 7-8:30 p.m. Dec. 11. For a $50 donation to MGA, participants will receive a link to participate in the virtual holiday paint and sip event, the supplies needed to create their own snowflake-inspired art, and two bottles of wine from Kavic Winery in Carnegie. The creation of the art will be led by art therapist Kristy Walter and the wine tasting will be led by Michael and Patricia Kavic.

Myasthenia Gravis is often called the “Snowflake Disease” because it manifests itself differently in every patient.
