The bridge leading into Murrysville’s Heather Highlands neighborhood is one of three that municipal and FTMSA officials plan to repair in the coming months.

The Franklin Township Municipal Sanitary Authority and Murrysville will advertise for a project to repair three bridges in Murrysville, but officials say it is only a temporary fix.

Three bridges — in the Heather Highlands, Cal-Ken Court and Logan’s Ferry Road areas — are in need of repairs.

“The original scope was to repair the concrete beams that support the (bridge) deck,” said FTMSA board member Robert Mitall. “The project was ready to bid, but we received notice from the inspection company that some additional work needs done. We’re looking at that now, and because of the … high-quality stream, the Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission has raised some concerns about it.”

Mitall said the authority will seek a general permit to perform the repair work, “since most of the work will be done underneath the bridge in the stream.”

“Because of the condition of the bridges, we’d ask you to help us get these out to bid as soon as possible,” he said.

Morrison said $175,000 had been budgeted for the work in the municipality’s $600,000 road and bridge reserve fund, part of the capital improvement program. He added that the work is only a temporary fix, and the cost to fully fix the Heather Highlands and Logan’s Ferry bridges could reach seven figures.

Council voted 6-0 to advertise for the projects. Councilwoman Jamie Lee-Korns was not present.
