Murrysville: Panthers crown homecoming royalty, author talk, Delmont leaf pick-up and more
Franklin Regional students crowned Casey Huczko and Garrett Deller as queen and king prior to the district’s homecoming football game Friday night.
This year’s homecoming court includes Abby Ely, Abby Bogler, Sydney Breitkreutz, Sophia Borelli, Delaney Pipon, Abby Nicolette, Josie Seymour, Abby Alexander, Casey Huczko, Caden Smith, Finn Solomon, Josh Pelusi, Christo Marion, Garrett Deller, Anthony DiFalco and Justin Tuminello.
Following the annual Thursday-night bonfire and Friday game, students were able to enjoy a homecoming dance held Saturday on the football field at Panther Stadium under a giant, heated tent.
Local author will be library’s featured speaker
Local author Gemma Stemley will be the featured speaker at the Murrysville Community Library’s Oct. 23 program.
Stemley is the author of “Finding Home: A Sentimental Journey,” which touches on themes of immigration, home and belonging.
It will take place at 2 p.m. at the library’s new TechNook.

Delmont library partners with nonprofit to collect clothing for homeless, needy
The Delmont Public Library will have a snowflake collection box ready for donations through Nov. 6, part of its partnership with nonprofit Feeding the Spirit.
Each year, Feeding the Spirit collects hats, gloves and scarves for the homeless and needy. They are pre-packaged in gallon plastic zip-lock bags and hung throughout Greensburg in places like Courthouse Square and St. Clair Park.
Hats, gloves and scarves for men, women and children will be accepted. It is also helpful if accessory sets are pre-packaged in a sealable plastic bag. All donations should be new or gently used.

Local ‘Pink Ribbon Bagel’ sales to benefit Windber cancer center
Marking two decades of baking pink bagels during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Panera locations in Murrysville, Greensburg, North Huntingdon, Monroeville, Altoona and Johnstown will donate a portion of their sale proceeds to the Joyce Murtha Breast Care Center in Windber.
The Pink Ribbon Bagel includes cherry-flavored chips, sweetened dried cherries, cherry-flavored cranberries and a vanilla, honey and brown sugar topping.
The Pink Ribbon Bagel benefit runs through Oct. 31.
Woman’s club to meet Oct. 21
The Murrysville Woman’s Club will meet at 11:15 a.m., Oct. 21 at Brushes and Beans in Murrysville.
Lunch will be served at noon, and the program will be pottery decoration. To attend or to join the club, call 412-720-8372.

Delmont announces leaf pickup dates
Leaf pickup for all Delmont residents will take place over the first three Saturdays in November: Nov. 6, 13 and 20.
Bags must be placed within 5 feet of the road edge or curb line.

Cornerstone to host Fall Fun Fest
Cornerstone Ministries will host an Oct. 15 Fall Fun Fest for children from age 5 through fifth grade.
It will be from 4 to 6 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Cornerstone, 2200 Cornerstone Lane in Murrysville, off Route 22.
The free event will include inflatables, balloon art, carnival games, crafts, a petting zoo and a caricature artist, as well as food trucks.
Walk-ins are welcome, but registration is requested by Oct. 10, if possible, by calling 724-733-0070.
Ministry marks 11th anniversary
No Walls Ministries will mark its 11th church anniversary with an afternoon celebration Oct. 16.
The church, at 214 Church St. in New Alexandria, will host a day of live music, food, hayrides, face painting, games and more. The event will start at 4 p.m. on the church lawn.
The Rev. Andy Mitrik, dean of Greater Works Outreach Bible School, will be the featured speaker.
