'On the Move' in the Murrysville area for the week of July 8, 2021

The Murrysville-Export Rotary Club chose winners in its “End Plastic Soup” art contest for fourth and fifth graders are Franklin Regional and Mother of Sorrows elementary schools. Twelve winners’ artwork is now part of the Rotary’s 2022 “End Plastic Soup” calendar.

The initiative, which spans Rotary clubs across the globe, is aimed at reducing the amount of plastic that ends up in waterways. Copies of the calendar are $10, available at Completely Booked in the Blue Spruce Shoppes, at the weekly Murrysville Farmer’s Market at Murrysville Volunteer Fire Company No. 1, or by emailing FRSDendplasticsoup@gmail.com.

The winning artwork came from Ryan Fitzgerald, Elle Mechling, Gianna Calabria, Kendall Lavery, Zain Sahawneh, Sravya Garimella, Ava Rutkowski, Maggie Kennon, Belle Paulone, Aishwarya Abiraman, Carmella Testa and Nic Niemiec.

Ian Bodner, Lance Slezak and Shannon Tevis of Murrysville and Adam Stasko of Delmont were named to the spring 2021 dean’s list at Ohio University.

In addition, Bodner (business analytics and marketing), Cali Cioppa (journalism), Angelique Fonseca (nursing), Michelle Haracznak (nursing), Gregg Neavin (specialized studies) and Noah Weiner (business administration) of Murrysville graduated from the university this spring.

Kara Miller of Murrysville graduated from Edinboro University on May 8 with a bachelor’s degree in middle level education.

Cara Ash of Delmont, Rachael Becse and Rasa Vaicenas of Export, and Anita Esmi and Julia Scagline of Murrysville were named to the spring 2021 dean’s list at Saint Francis University in Loretto.

Zoe Moser of Murrysville was named to the dean’s list at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Va. Moser is majoring in international affairs.

The Murrysville Woman’s Club installed new officers at its June meeting. They include President Jan Bollinger, First Vice President Margie Brannon, Second Vice President Beverly Bella, Secretary Bonnie Sheridan, Treasurer Kathy Valkovic and Financial Secretary Joyce Koga.

Simon Behr of Delmont and Clare Merante of Export graduated on May 23 from Bucknell University in Lewisburg.

Behr earned a degree in business administration, with a focus in accounting and financial management.

Merante earned a degree in history.

Jordan Humes of Export was named to the spring 2021 dean’s list at Lock Haven University.

The Franklin Regional 10U travel baseball team won the Penn Trafford Tournament last month, going undefeated and outscoring opponents by a total of 54-10.

The team beat Monroeville in the championship game.
