'On the Move' in the Murrysville area for the week of June 17, 2021

Franklin Regional seniors Ian Sunny and Alaina Shook are the recipients of this year’s $1,000 Franklin Regional Education Association scholarships. The association presents the scholarships annually to two seniors who plan to pursue a degree in education or a related field.
Sunny will attend Westmoreland County Community College and then plans to attend a four-year school to study environmental education.
Shook will attend Slippery Rock University to study special education.
In addition to a banner year including an undefeated regular season and a 21st section title, Franklin Regional’s tennis program also saw Anup Nadesan and Advait Kulkarni winning the school’s first WPIAL doubles championship.
Franklin Regional senior Kathryn Nardo was the recipient of a $1,000 Pennsylvania State Education Association — Retired of Westmoreland scholarship.
will attend Duquesne University in the fall to pursue a degree in elementary education.
John Sandala of Export was named to the spring 2021 dean’s list at Kutztown University.
Alex Christie of Delmont and Abigail Cratsa of Murrysville both graduated on May 15 from Grove City College.
Both Christie and Cratsa earned degrees in accounting.
Elias Holm and Isabel Palamone of Murrysville were named to the spring 2021 dean’s list at the University of Mount Union in Alliance, Ohio.
Franklin Regional School District students were busy finishing out their school year.
Abby Albright, Alex Christie and Libby Krieger of Delmont, Matt Kimmich of Export and Abigail Cratsa of Murrysville were named to the spring 2021 dean’s list at Grove City College.
Justin Gismondi and Bennett Verona of Murrysville graduated earlier this spring from the University of Alabama.
Both Gismondi and Verona earned their degrees in commerce and business administration.
Kara L. Miller and Logan C. Summerhill of Murrysville were named to the spring 2021 dean’s list at Edinboro University.
Miller is pursuing a degree in middle level education. Summerhill is pursuing a degree in sports and recreation management.
Sarah Seman of Delmont graduated earlier this spring from Cedarville University in Ohio, where she earned a degree in molecular and cellular biology.
She was also named to the school’s spring 2021 dean’s list.
Lauren Thompson of Murrysville was named to the spring 2021 dean’s list at Berry College in Alpharetta, Ga.
Kathleen Valkovic and Barb Breitenstein recently joined the Murrysville Woman’s Club.
Mary Painter graduated from the University of Findlay in Ohio on May 8 with a degree in pharmacy.
• Jared Turacy of Export was named to the 2021 dean’s list at Southern New Hampshire University.
• Charleigh Wagner of Murrysville graduated magna cum laude on May 8 from McKendree University in Lebanon, Ill. She earned a degree in biology.
