North Allegheny Senior High School is presenting its fall m-u-s-i-c-a-l, “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee,” about a group of spelling bee contestants who vie for the championship of a lifetime.

“Get ready for a memorable night of theatre with a fast-paced story and toe-tapping, catchy tunes,” said NA Music Department Chair Bob Tozier.

The musical hits the stage Oct. 20 and 22 at 7 p.m. and Oct. 23 at 2 p.m. in the high school auditorium. Tickets cost $14 each. The high school is located at 10375 Perry Highway in Wexford.

The musical comedy is a winner of a Tony and Drama Desk award for Best Book, according to Tozier.

“The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling is a fresh and exciting theatre experience that combines zany humor and a surprisingly touching story. Warning — audience members just may be roped into spelling words as part of the show,” he said.

NASH senior Brendan White plays William Barfee, a somewhat overbearing spelling bee contestant.

“The show is hilarious, silly, and non-stop-laughter-inducing, but also contains beautiful and touching moments that will bring the audience to tears. Putnam is drastically different from any show that North Allegheny has done. It contains wacky, larger-than-life characters and the opportunity to connect with the audience in a special way,” White said.

A team of 24 high school students make up the musical cast and crew.

“I am very proud of the talented and kind cast, crew, pit, and directing staff that has brought this show to life in all its hilarity. We are incredibly excited to share the laughs and awe that have filled our rehearsals with our community,” White said.

Tickets can be purchased through www.northallegheny.org or at the door. Tickets purchased through the website have an additional $2 online charge.
