Scheduling outdoor events can be tricky, especially right at the point where summer changes to fall.

Although everyone involved with Collier Township’s annual Collierfest hoped the forecast would be wrong, the Sept. 23 celebration brought weather that’s more in keeping with the latter season as opposed to the former.

But the folks who attended seemed to take the take the raindrops and lower temperatures in stride, donning ponchos and raincoats and carrying umbrellas to combat the conditions.

And they generally were of the opinion that, hey, this same thing seems to happen every year.

Even Rob Shazer, the township’s parks and recreation director, was smiling as he made his way through the parking lot at the Collier Community Center, greeting folks who were determined to have a good time no matter what Mother Nature had to offer.

Given her, shall we say, mood swings, that seems like a good idea whenever the calendar starts rolling toward the end of September.
