As of Feb. 12, the North Allegheny School District was still seeking an assistant principal for Marshall Elementary School.

Bus drivers, special education assistants and paraprofessionals are some of the positions that need to be filled at the North Allegheny School District, according to a mid-year human resources report to the school board Feb. 12.

The report is given twice annually, taking data from the third day of a school year and the first day of the second semester, which fell on Jan. 20 this year, said Marijane Treacy, director of the North Allegheny Human Resources Department.

“This is just a snapshot in comparison to the third day of school,” Treacy said.

Full-time equivalent positions remained relatively the same compared to the third day of school in fall 2024, except for a drop in paraprofessionals from about 211 to 205. The report also showed a drop in these positions compared to the school year of 2022 to 2023, when the number of paraprofessional full-time positions was 217.

Bus drivers, garage employees and mechanics also slipped from 94 positions at the beginning of the year to 86.

“We’re always hiring bus drivers at our districts,” Treacy said.

Full-time custodians and mechanics also are being sought.

At the time of the Feb. 12 meeting, there were two administrative positions open, an assistant principal at Marshall Elementary and a long-term substitute for the English as a Second Language teacher.

Treacy said they also are looking for paraprofessionals. As of Feb. 13, the district’s career page lists nine opportunities for special educational paraprofessionals district-wide.

Action already has begun on the hiring process for the 2025-26 school year with identifying staffing needs in March and kicking off recruitment initiatives in April, Treacy said.

She wanted to let the community know that there will be a good number of positions open throughout the district with 19 professional retirees being approved at the next school board voting meeting on Feb. 26.

And there are a number of positions at the district for those who want a more flexible schedule, such as day-to-day, paraprofessional and guest substitutes.

There’s an option for those with a four-year degree without teaching certification who could step in on a limited basis for teachers, after completing training and orientation conducted through the Allegheny Intermediate Unit.

“We invite anyone with talent and compassion to join our Tiger Team,” she said.
