Six of the eight candidates seeking party nominations in Tuesday’s primary will run against each other in November for four open seats on the North Hills school board.

Only two of the four incumbent board members whose seats are up at the end of the year ran in the spring contest.

School Directors Annette Givengo Nolish and Kathy Reid will step down after completing their terms at the end of the year.

All eight candidates running in the primary were cross-filed on the Democratic and Republican tickets.

The four candidates who receive the highest number of votes on each primary ticket win the respective party’s nomination to run in the Nov. 2 general election.

Incumbents Allison Mathis and Sandy Kozera were nominated on the Democratic ticket along with Mike Santucci and Elizabeth Nease.

Santucci and Nease also were received nominations on the GOP ticket along with Dale Bricker Jr. and Joe Muha, who previously served on the school board.

Prior to the primary, the candidates outlined their reasons for running for office as well as their platforms.

School board members primarily are responsible for planning, setting policy and evaluating results, according to the state School Board Association.

School directors serve for four years and are unpaid.
