You can’t say he’s not a hands-on boss.

Allegheny County Sheriff Kevin Kraus saw a gray Nissan Sentra traveling erratically in Pittsburgh’s North Hills Tuesday afternoon, after he left his job at the county courthouse for the day.

The driver ran a red light at the intersection of Lowries Run Road and Mt. Nebo Road in Ohio Township, and was driving about 70 mph — twice the road’s posted speed limit, officials said.

Kraus decided to initiate the traffic stop.

After stopping the car, Kraus had the driver exit the vehicle. During the pat down, Kraus found a bag of marijuana in the man’s front-left pocket, according to a criminal complaint in the case.

“That’s home-grown weed,” the man said.

Kraus then found one baggie of a powdery white substance consistent with cocaine in the man’s right cargo pocket, the complaint said. The sheriff found another small plastic baggie of white substance in his left cargo pocket.

Kraus charged the driver, Robert Ross, 62 — who lives in Ross — with two counts of drug possession and three traffic violations, including careless driving, according to a criminal complaint in the case.

Ross will be notified of the charges via summons, sheriff’s spokesman Mike Manko said.
