Holy Cross Academy in Ross is closed Friday after officials learned that a student may have been exposed to the coronavirus, the Pittsburgh Catholic Diocese announced this morning.

Officials said the student was possibly exposed to the virus from a relative outside the school.

They stressed that nobody in the school community has any known symptoms of the virus or has had contact with anybody who has tested positive for the virus.

The decision to close the school is based on the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s recommendation that school buildings be sanitized as a safeguard against spreading the virus.

An in-service day has been scheduled at Holy Cross and all other schools on Monday so that teachers can prepare plans to continue educating students if schools must close to prevent exposure to coronavirus.
