Zombies of the Corn, an interactive haunted attraction in Freedom, Beaver County, will be frightening patrons on weekends through October beginning Sept. 24.

Hurricane Ida relief

Help Salem UMC in Wexford and the Olive Branch Fair Trade Store collect 100 Hygiene Kits for UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief) by donating hand towels, washcloths, combs, fingernail clippers, toothbrushes, bandages and more. The last day to bring in kits (to Salem or the Olive Branch) or any of the individual items needed is Sept. 30. For a complete list of items needed or more information, visit salem-umc.org.

Zombies of the Corn

Three Rivers Paintball is gearing up for its ninth annual Fall event, Zombies of the Corn, which will be held weekends through October, beginning Sept. 24. Folks of all ages will have a chance to board zombie fighting vehicles — because who doesn’t like to shoot live zombies that can’t shoot back?

Other fabulous attractions include the Zombie Compound, the Zombie Maze, story tellers, bonfires and outdoor movies. Fire dancers and tasty treats will keep everyone entertained and happy.

Parking will be handled by the Sunrise Rotary Club of Cranberry Township, which will be collecting donations for Voice — the local domestic violence agency in Butler.

For more information, visit zombiesofthecorn.com or call 724-775-6232.

The Block Northway Farmers Market

The Block Northway continues to feature weekly entertainment during the Farmer’s Market and Food Truck events. Kat Polaski will perform on Sept. 24. The Farmer’s Market, produced in partnership with I Made It Market, is a weekly farmer’s market featuring a diverse collection of local vendors offering fresh, locally grown produce, local meats and cheeses, canned goods, local honey, fine spirits, flowers, unique hand-made gifts and much more. For more information, visit theblocknorthway.com.

History & sports

The McCandless/Northern Allegheny Heritage Center will host a special presentation on the history of North Allegheny and North Hills-area football, featuring special guests Bob Miller, former NA head coach; Dick Krotzer, former NA assistant coach; Dr. Wilton Barber, former NA principal and assistant coach; Ron Dominick, former NA assistant coach; and Jack McCurry, former North Hills head coach.

The presentation will take place at 6 p.m. Sept. 23, and will be followed outdoors by a tailgate party from 6:45 to 9 p.m. hosted by the North Allegheny Football Parents Association.

• On Sept. 30 at 7 p.m., at the McCandless/Northern Allegheny Heritage Center will host Jim Haller, who will guide attendees through the deep baseball tradition of the Steel City — from the very first World Series game, to Mazeroski and Clemente, and even all the way down to the simple thrills of a childhood pickup game.

Haller is a long-standing member of the Society for American Baseball Research and has been a docent and ambassador at the Heinz History Center for more than a decade.

Both events are free and open to the public. The Heritage Center is located on Aufman Lane (off Grubbs Road between Town Hall and the Ambulance Authority building).

Craft & Vendor Show

On Sept. 26, Norwood Herrington Chapter #356 OES will hold the fourth annual Craft & Vendor Show at the Greater Pittsburgh Masonic Center, located at 3579 Masonic Way (off Cemetery Lane) in Ross. Hours for the event are 11 a.m.-3 p.m. and admission is free. Come start your holiday shopping with local vendors who will be sharing their handcrafted items, unique gifts, sweets, jewelry, decor, apparel and a large basket auction of items from the vendors at the show.

Family Resources Charity Golf event

Family Resources will host a fundraising golf event at Shannopin Country Club on Sept. 27. Ryan Recker, from WTAE-TV, will serve as the celebrity host for the golf event, Chipping Away At Child Abuse With Ryan Recker & Friends.

Proceeds from the event will be used by Family Resources in its work to recognize and treat trauma. The effects of the covid-19 pandemic have drastically increased parental stress, which leads to child abuse and neglect, therefore creating the need for more mental health services for children and their families.

The event features a team scramble format and includes many local celebrities who will join Ryan to further Family Resources’ mission. Tee-off time is 11 a.m. and participation includes green fees, golf carts, a boxed lunch, 19th hole refreshments and prizes.

Local corporations, businesses, and individuals who wish to support Family Resources and participate in the event can sign-up and register at www.familyresouces.org.
