‘Christmas Carol’ virtual performance
Hear the classic tale of Ebenezer Scrooge and the ghosts of Christmas Past in a virtual performance of Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol” by the Steel City Shakespeare troupe.
The Dec. 18 listening party begins at 6 p.m. and benefits the West View Hub charitable organization.

Live-streamed Christmas Eve services
Hampton Presbyterian Church will celebrate four Christmas Eve services on Dec. 24 and broadcast a virtual service on its website, hamptonpresbyterian.net and YouTube channel.
The 3:30 and the 6 p.m. services are geared toward families and conclude with candle-lighting during the singing of “Silent Night.” The 8 p.m. is a “Watch Night” service, which is a more meditative style of worship and includes candle lighting and communion. The service at 10 p.m. is a traditional worship service, with brass and bells and candle lighting. Communion also will be served.
Access to the virtual service starts at 3:30 p.m.
The church is located at 2942 East Hardies Road in Gibsonia.
NA alum earns scholarships
Samantha Lucas of Allison Park, a graduate of North Allegheny Sr. High School majoring in music theatre, earned the H. Elizabeth Howe Music Scholarship, the Lillian & Cecil Munk Scholarship, the Lois Zolliker Scholarship and the Virginia & Oliver Ocasek Scholarship. She is studying at Baldwin Wallace University in Ohio.
CCAC FireVEST Scholarship graduate
Allegheny County has issued proclamations honoring recent graduates of the Community College of Allegheny County FireVEST scholarship program.
The seven CCAC program graduates are being recognized for their academic achievements and their commitment to serve as volunteer firefighters in their respective communities for the next five years.
Rebecca Pritchard Lalor of the Bellevue VFD is among the graduates.
Openings in Bradford Woods for advisory group members
Bradford Woods is seeking applicants for volunteer positions on the planning commission, environmental and parks advisory council and zoning hearing and vacancy boards that will be open next year.
The planning commission post is a four-year term, and the EPAC and zoning hearing board positions are for three years.
The Vacancy Board meets only to fill a vacant seat on borough council when the remaining members are unable to agree on an appointment. The term is for one year.

Allegheny County hiring park rangers
The Allegheny County Parks Department is accepting applications for seasonal park rangers, including positions in North Park.
Park rangers learn valuable skills patrolling and interacting with visitors, leading public programming, building and maintaining trails, working on resource management projects such as tree plantings and invasive species removal, teaching outreach groups and managing volunteers.
Applicants must have a minimum of 45 college credits in parks and recreation management, biology, environmental science or a related field of study.
An equivalent combination of education and experience can be substituted. Applicants also must be certified in CPR when they are hired. The pay rate is $10 an hour.

Radon detectors available for loan
Northland Public Library in McCandless is offering Airthings radon detectors for checkout thanks to a generous donation.
Radon detectors can tell when harmful radon gas is in the air of a home or building. The new detectors available at the library are easy to use and need only about seven days in a building to provide an accurate reading.
The units were donated by Jeremy and Stacey Shaffer and dedicated to people who have lost their lives to lung cancer.
Trib offering journalism scholarships
Trib Total Media is accepting applications for the Scholarship for Diversity in Media and the Jim Borden Memorial Scholarship.
The Scholarship for Diversity in Media is open to high school seniors who are culturally, ethnically or racially diverse and are planning to study journalism, communication or English writing at a four-year college or university.
The scholarship will include financial assistance of up to $7,500 per year for four years, a guaranteed annual internship with Trib Total Media and an offer for full-time employment upon graduation.
The Jim Borden Memorial Scholarship is offered to high school or college students attending — or planning to attend — a four-year college or university to study journalism, English writing or communication. The recipient will earn up to $30,000 in scholarship money awarded in annual installments of up to $7,500, an annual internship with Trib Total Media and an offer for full-time employment upon graduation.
