McCort recognized
Kiersten McCort, CRPC a Private Wealth Advisor with Ameriprise Financial in Wexford, has been named a recipient of the 2021 Five Star Wealth Manager award by Five Star Professional for the 12th consecutive year. The award goes to less than seven percent of the wealth managers in the region based on research administered by Five Star Professional, a third-party research firm.
Special Needs May Day event
The Recreation Alliance of North Pittsburgh will hold a Special Needs May Day from 3-5 p.m. May 1 at Denny Park. There will be music, crafts, games and food. The event is free. To learn more, visit ranp.recdesk.com.
McCandless Democratic Committee Scholarships
North Allegheny High School seniors who are registered Democrats — or are the child of a Democrat — can apply for a $1,000 scholarship from the McCandless Democratic Committee.
No financial disclosure is required to apply for the 16th annual award. Students must have a QPA of 3.0 or higher and be scheduled to graduate in 2021.
The deadline to apply is May 8. Finalists will be notified of the interview date on May 13.

Pop-up e-waste collections
The Pennsylvania Resources Council will launch a pilot program in May to collect electronics for recycling on designated weekdays at two locations in Allegheny County. Through the generous support of Sustainable Sewickley, PRC will conduct pop-up e-waste collection events on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
At no cost, individuals can drop off cell/home phones, computer towers and peripheral equipment (keyboards, laptops, mice, etc.) and video game consoles/DVD players.
For a fee, individuals can drop off televisions, computer monitors and printers.
Participants must register in advance at www.prc.org/PopUpEwaste or by calling 412-488-7490×3. Registration for each event opens one month in advance.
The North Hills recycling events are at the Michael Brothers Hauling & Recycling, 408 Hoffman Road in Reserve:

Plant sale
The Greybrooke Garden Club is hosting its annual spring plant sale 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 8 in McCandless.
Hanging baskets, perennials, herbs, annuals and garden supplies will be available for purchase. The event is being held in the grassy area near the Bonefish Grill restaurant in the McCandless Crossing Shopping Center on McKnight Road. A Reading Corner for kids hosted by Riverstone Books will be set up during the sale and kids will receive a free seed packet to plant. Proceeds from the fundraiser will help support Greybrooke’s annual donations to conservancy groups and community organizations.
Covid safety guidelines will be in place during the sale.
Plant sale
Longvue Acres Garden Club’s annual pperennial plant sale will take place 9 a.m.-noon May 15, rain or shine, in the upper parking lot of Northmont United Presbyterian Church, 8169 Perry Hwy.
The sale will feature more than 500 perennial plants grown in members’ gardens. Proceeds will help fund monthly educational programs for the public and support the maintenance of the UPMC Passavant chapel garden. The proceeds also help fund the local gardens in McCandless and Ross Township including Northland Public Library’s new learning garden and Ross Township’s Community Garden and Evergreen Park.

Applications sought for activities, technology committees
The Town of McCandless is seeking applicants to fill terms on the Activities Advisory Committee and Technology Advisory Committee.
The term on the AAC expires Sept. 30, 2025. The AAC was created with the goal of providing opportunities for community engagement (including, but not limited to, active recreation, games, activities, the arts, music, educational and social gatherings). The committee also will study parks and recreation opportunities and strategies in McCandless, and make recommendations to council on matters of policy, practices and capital improvement priorities.
The term on the TAC expires June 30, 2023. The TAC was created to help develop and recommend policies and programs to council to preserve and enhance aspects of the character of the Town of McCandless and to address technology issues.

Living a Little Mary-er 5K Run/Walk
The Mary Claire Foundation’s Living a Little Mary-er 5K Run/Walk will take place June 12 at North Park. Register for the event at themaryclairefoundation.org.
The Mary Claire Foundation is a nonprofit that assists families who are experiencing child loss by providing community outreach and supporting initiatives that promote grief counseling, pediatric medicine and organ donation awareness. Mary Claire was a loving and kind 10-year-old who was healthy and vibrant until her life was cut short following a brief illness. She was also an organ donor. The foundation is bolstered by the opportunity to turn our pain into help for others.
The race raises money to support the foundation’s mission.
