Members of Longvue Acres Garden Club offered a variety of plants for sale during their 75th anniversary event May 17 at Northmont United Presbyterian Church in McCandless.

Longvue Acres Garden Club raised more than $3,300, a record amount, during its 75th anniversary perennial plant sale May 17.

More than 600 perennials were available for purchase, including Pennsylvania natives and pollinators — all of which were grown in members’ gardens and donated for the sale.

Giveaways during the event at Northmont United Presbyterian Church in McCandless included heirloom seed packets and annuals, as well as a free table for gently used gardening items.

Proceeds from the sale fund all of the group’s programs, projects and charitable giving.

Included in the organization’s outreach are monthly educational programs for the public, as well as maintenance of the UPMC Passavant chapel garden and local community gardens in McCandless and Ross.

The money raised during the plant sale also helps to support the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy, Botanic Gardens of Western Pennsylvania and North Area Environmental Council.

The Longvue Acres Garden Club meets at 7 p.m. the fourth Tuesday of each month at Northmont United Presbyterian Church. To learn more about the club or to become a member, send an email to longvueacresgardenclub1950@gmail.com.
